In the early ‘80s Paul Sr. was doing routine inspections in the vineyard and noticed a single Gamay Noir vine growing straight up and taller than the others in the block. He was interested in the potential of this vine so we took cuttings and propagated the vine and eventually made wine from these specific grapes. The wine did have some of the classic Gamay characteristics, cherry flavours and a medium body style, but there was also a layer of complexity that was a pleasant surprise. Gamay ‘Droit’ also has warm spicy notes and a hint of smokiness that is quite lovely. It is also higher in alcohol making it more mid-weight in style. The wine was different enough from standard Gamay that we thought we actually had a different clone on our hands. Once the genetic testing was done we found out that Canada’s first vinifera vine was born right in our vineyard! We were granted the International Plant Breeders’ rights, a sort of patent, so no one else in the world can grow this vine or make this wine called Gamay Noir ‘Droit’. Because this wine is so interesting in the glass we decided to not oak age it. What you taste is the unique flavours of Gamay ‘Droit’. This is Michèle's “go to” BBQ wine. No matter what's on the grill, Gamay ‘Droit’ is a terrific match. One of her favourite rib recipes has a sauce made from olive oil, honey, any fresh herbs you have, garlic, Dijon, lemon juice and minced jalapeño. Chill down the wine for about 10 minutes and voila, gourmet back deck BBQ! In the winter it works beautifully with a hearty lasagna or a double-cut Ontario pork chop topped with a mushroom & herb sauce.

Growing wine has been in our family’s blood for seven generations. In fact we have been farming our land in Niagara-on-the-Lake for more than 30 years. We love everything about it; from nurturing the vineyards each year, to bringing the wines to life in the cellar and waiting for each to come of age so it can be enjoyed. This is also where we live, raise families and play. It's not just where we work, it's home.

From the beginning we have been committed to using sustainable practices both on the farm and in the winery. Paul Bosc Sr. and his team use modern science and a lot of TLC to coax the best out of every vine. And with more than 30 vintages in our vineyards we think we know which varieties grow best in which spot. But there is always more to learn.

In our home wine is an important part of most family dinners. It is treated like another food group. There is an interesting phenomenon that happens when wine is enjoyed with a meal ”” life slows down. We discuss each other's days. We enjoy the time together. Dinner becomes more than just food, it becomes a meal.

We hope that each and every bottle of our wine gives you a taste of who we are and why we love sharing a little of our way of life with you. Because making wine is not what we do, it's who we are.
