December CHEF'S BOX theme: Farm to Chef, with Chef Lynn Crawford

We're kicking off a year long focus on Canada's best chefs and cookbook authors.  This month we’re bringing you favourite ingredients and recipes from Chef Lynn Crawford’s new cookbook, Farm to Chef – Cooking Through the Seasons. Chef Lynn is a champion of all things local and seasonal, and has immense admiration for those who have dedicated their lives to growing, harvesting and sharing ingredients, bursting with flavour and perfection. Enjoy these 6 artisan picks, perfect ingredients and accompaniments for three fall seasonal recipes selected from this wonderful cookbook.
 
Pickled Beets made by Top Shelf Preserves - These sweet and tangy beets are based on an old family recipe. The beets are sourced from Ontario and Quebec farmers, and then pickled in a delicate blend of spices. Delicious with salads or as a side to a chicken pot pie.
 
Mostarda made by Preservation Society - Mostarda is an Italian condiment of fruit in mustard syrup, often served with meats and cheeses. Camilla’s version is by no means traditional mostarda, but it’s definitely delicious. Use it as you would a chutney - in a grilled cheese sandwich, with pork or chicken, or just open up a jar to instantly elevate any cheese plate.

Triple Crunch made by Kozlik’s Canadian Mustard - Taste and texture come together in this blend of three different types of whole mustard seed, Canadian whisky and honey. Great as a rub on pork roasts, served with foie gras and with raw oysters.

Honey Peanut Butter made by Monkey Butter - Vancouver-based Monkey Butter makes PB with flavours that go beyond the traditional. This all-natural smooth peanut butter is lightly sweetened with a touch of sea salt.

Concord Grape Jelly made by Le Meadow’s Pantry - This authentic grape jelly, with its most striking purple colour, has a delicate hint of Spanish sherry. The concord grapes are sourced from the Okanagan Valley and the jelly is cooked 12 jars at a time in French copper preserving pans.  

Sponge Toffee made by Goûter - Based in Toronto, owner Rodney Alléguède is continually innovating in the world of classic french pastries, chocolates and confections: “In the world of pastry, sometimes it’s about going back to the essentials and making it taste as good as it can be.”

ShippingWe have pre-ordered a limited number of December CHEF'S BOXES to be available for immediate shipment ON REQUEST (it regularly ships January 8th) - PLEASE INDICATE IN SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU PREFER DECEMBER DELIVERY.  For subscriptions, the January CHEF'S BOX will ship on the regular schedule i.e. approx February 8th.

Gift Messages: We can hand-write a gift message on your behalf. Please indicate your message in the Special Instructions section of your shopping cart. 


How does the CHEF'S BOX™ monthly food club work?
  1. Pick a subscription plan, either 1 month (a single box), prepaid 3 or 6 months (or quarterly), or a monthly recurring order (subsequent months are billed on the 22nd day of every month and cancellable on 30 days notice - just log into your account to monitor shipments or cancel).
  2. Order any time during the month and your first CHEF'S BOX™ will be shipped by the 15th day of the month following (ex. order January 22nd and your first box ships by February 15th; order June 2nd and your first box ships by July 15th)
  3. Pay a flat monthly fee for Expedited Parcel shipping (see Shipping Terms for more detail).
  4. For gifts, put the recipient's name and address in the Special Instruction box of the checkout (note: only one shipping address per order).
