May CHEF'S BOX Theme: Cooking Indian with Toronto’s Chef Hemant Bhagwani

Our team loves Indian food – the wide range of flavours, each family’s curry just a little different from the next, the colourful array of dishes for dipping naan – so it seemed a natural to team up with this month’s curator, Chef Hemant Bhagwani from Toronto's Amaya, Indian Street Food Co. and, as of January, Leela Restaurant. With this month’s box, you can easily make authentic Indian dishes at home (without having to buy more spices!).

Here’s what’s inside:

Coconut Curry Simmer Sauce (450mL) made by Umi’s Kitchen. The most popular curry in the Umi product line-up makes a deliciously comforting meal when you don’t have a lot of time. Fresh onions create the base, carrots offer sweetness and coconut milk provides the creamy, delicious texture. 

Mango Chutney (314mL) made by Les Fougeres. Slow cooked, the old fashioned way, this chutney is perfect with curry, in a chicken salad, or just about any sandwich.

Tikka Masala Spice (70g) made by Arvinda’s. Don’t stop at Chicken Tikka! This dynamite spice blend will liven up your vegetables and raise BBQ ribs to a new level.

Raita Salt (70g) made by Jaswant’s Kitchen. A unique combination of salts and spices used to make raita (yogourt dip). Also fabulous on fresh fruit with lime, and as a rimmer for summer lemonade or cocktails.

Tadka Masala Spice (70g) made by Jaswant’s Kitchen. The perfect blend of 20 different spices that can be used as the base for lentils, meat curries and veggie dishes.  It adds depth and complex flavour without all the effort!

Organic Ground Fenugreek (35g) from Splendor Garden. This aromatic spice with a bittersweet taste is great in curries, vegetable dishes, stews, and with chicken.

Bombay Masala Chai (makes 16 cups) made by Trudy Ann’s Chai. The perfect blend of organic spices and organic Assam tea.  One satisfied customer says it all: “Best chai outside of India… and probably better than many in India.”

You’ll also receive Chef Bhagwani’s recipes for Spiced Chicken Salad with Avocado, Masala Chai Popsicles, and the exotic and fragrant Amaya Prawns.

How does the CHEF'S BOX™ monthly food club work?
  1. Pick a subscription plan, either 1 month (a single box), prepaid 3 or 6 months (or quarterly), or a monthly recurring order (subsequent months are billed on the 22nd day of every month and cancellable on 30 days notice - just log into your account to monitor shipments or cancel).
  2. Order any time during the month and your first CHEF'S BOX™ will be shipped by the 15th day of the month following (ex. order January 22nd and your first box ships by February 15th; order June 2nd and your first box ships by July 15th)
  3. Pay a flat monthly fee for Expedited Parcel shipping (see Shipping Terms for more detail).
  4. For gifts, put the recipient's name and address in the Special Instruction box of the checkout (note: only one shipping address per order).
