Lang Vineyards opened its doors in 1990 and has grown from its humble beginning into one of the Okanagan’s most popular wineries, winning numerous awards and helping to establish the quality and reputation of wines from the Naramata Bench.

Our popular Farm Reserve Riesling won the Best White Wine of the Year Award at the 2013 All Canadian Wine Championships and Double Gold. Lang Vineyards won two other prestigious awards at the Okanagan Wine Fest including the Best of Varietal for our Rose., and Best Dessert/Fortified Wine for our unique White Maple Wine. Furthermore, our Riesling Ice Wine was awarded the Best of Show at the Northwest Wine Summit against 800 entries. We also picked up a Silver Medal at the All Canadian Wine Championships for our 2011 Marechal Foch.

Guenther Lang and his wife, Kristina, purchased the vineyard when they immigrated to Canada in 1980. Guenther selected the property ”” high up on the bench ”” for its excellent soil conditions and micro-climate. Additional properties along the bench have added to the overall acreage available to the winery. During the 80’s, most of the hybrid varieties were pulled out and replaced with vinifera varietals: whites such as Pinot Auxerrois, Gewurztraminer, Riesling and most recently Viognier. Red varieties included Pinot Noir, Merlot and Pinot Meunier.

The location is cool enough to grow Gewurztraminer that retains refreshing acidity. The vineyard also benefits from good air drainage, which allows the vineyard to remain frost free well into autumn. This enables the Riesling to ripen for excellent late harvest wines. The winery has also enjoyed great success with ice-wines and a unique dessert wine called “The Original Canadian Maple Wine”. The only hybrid varietal remaining is the Marechal Foch, which remains one of Lang’s most popular wines.

Lang Vineyards was the first to receive its 'Farm Gate Winery' license and opened up in the spring of 1990. The small but superbly equipped winery has grown well beyond the farm winery concept since then.

In 2005 Guenther Lang decided to sell the winery and retire after many years of success and seeing the small operation turn into one of the leading wineries in the Okanagan.

In 2010 new owners took over the winery, working to return Lang Vineyards to its original roots of success. Included in this has been the hiring back of Guenther Lang as a Consultant and also bringing on Guenther’s nephew Michael Lang as General Manager.

Lang Vineyards success has been proven by an incredible track record of recent wine awards such as Best White Wine in Canada, Platinum Medals, Double Golds and many others.
